Abstract

Pancreatic cancer belongs to the most malignant gastrointestinal
cancers and the treatment options are limited. The two bioactive components
of turmeric, curcumin and turmeric oil, are reported to have anticancer
properties against pancreatic cancer as well as a number of other cancer cell
lines. These turmeric products make use of a number of different signaling
pathways in their mechanism of action. The low toxicity of these components
and their ability to enhance the activity of other anti-cancer drugs make them
good candidates for the development of new treatment options for pancreatic
cancer. A brief review of the current state of these compounds in pancreatic
cancer research is presented.
